Narrative:
Departing runway 31 and was assigned to turn to heading of 340 degrees, we continued runway heading through at least 2500 ft. Then we called departure on our own -- did not hear tower hand us off. Departure told us to make immediate turn to 040 degrees. We failed to fly departure assigned heading of 340 degrees with radar vectors to follow to our first fix.
