Narrative:

I was sitting in my jump seat and I smelled smoke. The #2 flight attendant smelled it as well. I called the cockpit to notify them and they said that they would return to bdl to land. We landed and maintenance came on board the aircraft to check it out. We flew to chicago on a different airplane. Also, a few passenger rang their call lights to inform us that they smelled smoke as well. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: the reporter stated that she never found out the source of the smoke. When they landed, they were met by fire trucks and other emergency equipment, but that when the firemen boarded, they couldn't find the source of the smoke. As a precaution, they took the plane OTS, and were fortunate enough to have another plane available to replace theirs.
