Narrative:
On climb out from sfd, cleared to 15000 ft. Then given a left turn to 010 degrees and stop climb at 9000 ft. As we leveled out at 9000 ft, we got a TCASII 'traffic' followed by a TCASII RA to 'descend.' the first officer immediately followed the descent guidance and we advised ATC that we were descending with a TCASII RA. At the same time, I visually acquired the traffic crossing left to right and above us at about 2 mi. TCASII indicated his altitude between 9400-9300 ft. We descended to approximately 8500 ft and received a TCASII 'clear of conflict' message and requested a new clearance. ATC cleared us direct lin and to climb to 15000 ft. Our high rate of climb to 9000 ft, prior to leveloff, may have contributed to the TCASII RA. Safety of flight was not compromised and I would not categorize this as a near miss.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: ACR TAKES EVASIVE ACTION AFTER RECEIVING TCASII RA.
Narrative: ON CLBOUT FROM SFD, CLRED TO 15000 FT. THEN GIVEN A L TURN TO 010 DEGS AND STOP CLB AT 9000 FT. AS WE LEVELED OUT AT 9000 FT, WE GOT A TCASII 'TFC' FOLLOWED BY A TCASII RA TO 'DSND.' THE FO IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWED THE DSCNT GUIDANCE AND WE ADVISED ATC THAT WE WERE DSNDING WITH A TCASII RA. AT THE SAME TIME, I VISUALLY ACQUIRED THE TFC XING L TO R AND ABOVE US AT ABOUT 2 MI. TCASII INDICATED HIS ALT BTWN 9400-9300 FT. WE DSNDED TO APPROX 8500 FT AND RECEIVED A TCASII 'CLR OF CONFLICT' MESSAGE AND REQUESTED A NEW CLRNC. ATC CLRED US DIRECT LIN AND TO CLB TO 15000 FT. OUR HIGH RATE OF CLB TO 9000 FT, PRIOR TO LEVELOFF, MAY HAVE CONTRIBUTED TO THE TCASII RA. SAFETY OF FLT WAS NOT COMPROMISED AND I WOULD NOT CATEGORIZE THIS AS A NEAR MISS.
