Narrative:
Departure from ttd, runway 25. Advised by tower of a right crosswind on departure. I departed light, at maximum climb, as I was simulating a short-field takeoff. I turned crosswind at midfield. I climbed out north, then conflicted with an approaching cessna, which I saw. I held my altitude low. I should have climbed out straight ahead, but cold air, light airplane, and a 1500 FPM climb rate caused a conflict. Next time I'll climb out beyond the end of the runway. I lost situational awareness, and tower did not expect my rate of climb or turnout.

Title: A LOW TIME C182 PLT MADE AN UNAUTH XWIND TURN, MIDFIELD AT TTD, CAUSING AN NMAC WITH A CESSNA.
Narrative: DEP FROM TTD, RWY 25. ADVISED BY TWR OF A R XWIND ON DEP. I DEPARTED LIGHT, AT MAX CLB, AS I WAS SIMULATING A SHORT-FIELD TKOF. I TURNED XWIND AT MIDFIELD. I CLBED OUT N, THEN CONFLICTED WITH AN APCHING CESSNA, WHICH I SAW. I HELD MY ALT LOW. I SHOULD HAVE CLBED OUT STRAIGHT AHEAD, BUT COLD AIR, LIGHT AIRPLANE, AND A 1500 FPM CLB RATE CAUSED A CONFLICT. NEXT TIME I'LL CLB OUT BEYOND THE END OF THE RWY. I LOST SITUATIONAL AWARENESS, AND TWR DID NOT EXPECT MY RATE OF CLB OR TURNOUT.
