Primary Problem | Passenger Human Performance |
Narrative:
In cruise flight we encountered moderate turbulence and requested lower altitude. We received lower where it was smoother and flight continued uneventfully. Passenger contacted FAA and apparently said that a PA was made by pilots that indicated there had been a 'near miss' and evasive action had been taken. Nothing like that occurred. The flight was perfectly normal except for the turbulence. Supplemental information from acn 453689: seatbelt sign was turned on immediately when the turbulence was encountered with a PA. Flight continued to dtw uneventfully. This report is completed as per request by chief pilot due to a passenger stating that they will notify the FAA of a near miss and evasive action taken and that the PA also stated this. This is absolutely untrue. We had no conflict with another aircraft, no TCASII warning and no maneuvering for another aircraft.

Title: A DC9 FLC CHANGED ALTS FOR TURB. A PAX CONTACTED THE FAA AND RPTED THE EVENT AS A NEAR MISS.
Narrative: IN CRUISE FLT WE ENCOUNTERED MODERATE TURB AND REQUESTED LOWER ALT. WE RECEIVED LOWER WHERE IT WAS SMOOTHER AND FLT CONTINUED UNEVENTFULLY. PAX CONTACTED FAA AND APPARENTLY SAID THAT A PA WAS MADE BY PLTS THAT INDICATED THERE HAD BEEN A 'NEAR MISS' AND EVASIVE ACTION HAD BEEN TAKEN. NOTHING LIKE THAT OCCURRED. THE FLT WAS PERFECTLY NORMAL EXCEPT FOR THE TURB. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 453689: SEATBELT SIGN WAS TURNED ON IMMEDIATELY WHEN THE TURB WAS ENCOUNTERED WITH A PA. FLT CONTINUED TO DTW UNEVENTFULLY. THIS RPT IS COMPLETED AS PER REQUEST BY CHIEF PLT DUE TO A PAX STATING THAT THEY WILL NOTIFY THE FAA OF A NEAR MISS AND EVASIVE ACTION TAKEN AND THAT THE PA ALSO STATED THIS. THIS IS ABSOLUTELY UNTRUE. WE HAD NO CONFLICT WITH ANOTHER ACFT, NO TCASII WARNING AND NO MANEUVERING FOR ANOTHER ACFT.
