Narrative:

At 7000 ft, 190 KTS between dejay and kayoh on kayoh 4 arrival to sna, socal approach advised us of company traffic, our altitude (7000 ft) at 2 O'clock position heading south, not in radio contact. We acknowledged him in sight and told to maintain VFR contact with him and continue with the arrival. Seconds later, TCASII announced 'traffic, traffic' immediately followed by a 'climb' RA as the traffic went red and merged at our 4-5 O'clock position, less than 1 mi (estimated). First officer (PF) maintained visual. I was informed after landing to call approach due to a pilot deviation. Called and told it was controller error by a supervisor.
