Narrative:
We were parked at lga. This gate requires a pushback that incurs on taxiway a. Company procedure requires that we first contact air carrier ramp to obtain pushback clearance and then contact lga ground also to obtain clearance onto taxiway a. This procedure was fully discussed with the first officer prior to pushback and it was my understanding that he understood what was required. At time of pushback the cap monitors only flight interphone communication with the push crew. The first officer called air carrier ramp and received push clearance (since he was not told specifically to contact ground for push, he did not do so). Only after we had asked for taxi clearance was I aware that the first officer had not contacted ground previously. Once again I went over the procedure with the first officer and he then advised that since air carrier ramp had not specifically advised to contact ground that he felt there was no necessity.

Title: TXWY INCURSION BY LGT AT LGA.
Narrative: WE WERE PARKED AT LGA. THIS GATE REQUIRES A PUSHBACK THAT INCURS ON TXWY A. COMPANY PROC REQUIRES THAT WE FIRST CONTACT ACR RAMP TO OBTAIN PUSHBACK CLRNC AND THEN CONTACT LGA GND ALSO TO OBTAIN CLRNC ONTO TXWY A. THIS PROC WAS FULLY DISCUSSED WITH THE FO PRIOR TO PUSHBACK AND IT WAS MY UNDERSTANDING THAT HE UNDERSTOOD WHAT WAS REQUIRED. AT TIME OF PUSHBACK THE CAP MONITORS ONLY FLT INTERPHONE COM WITH THE PUSH CREW. THE FO CALLED ACR RAMP AND RECEIVED PUSH CLRNC (SINCE HE WAS NOT TOLD SPECIFICALLY TO CONTACT GND FOR PUSH, HE DID NOT DO SO). ONLY AFTER WE HAD ASKED FOR TAXI CLRNC WAS I AWARE THAT THE FO HAD NOT CONTACTED GND PREVIOUSLY. ONCE AGAIN I WENT OVER THE PROC WITH THE FO AND HE THEN ADVISED THAT SINCE ACR RAMP HAD NOT SPECIFICALLY ADVISED TO CONTACT GND THAT HE FELT THERE WAS NO NECESSITY.
