Narrative:
Departed mky about XA30, contacted ft meyers approach to get flight following to pcm. Within a few mi of class C, rsw airspace, ATC said 'proceed to the lee county VOR.' not being able to locate the lee county VOR frequency readily (on the sectional lee county VOR identify box is offset approximately 1 1/2 inches below compass rose, was not readily in view given limited space of cockpit) and not wanting to invade class C airspace of rsw, a northeast heading is taken while consulting the sectional for VOR frequency and heading. ATC questions heading. I reply that I'm unfamiliar with lee county VOR frequency. ATC then replies 'proceed on a heading of 310 degrees.' I correct to a 310 degree heading, proceed through rsw airspace.

Title: A C182 PVT PLT HAS DIFFICULTY IN LOCATING THE LEE COUNTY VOR FREQ (RSW) AND GETS A VECTOR FROM RSW APCH CTLR WHILE SE OF RSW, FL.
Narrative: DEPARTED MKY ABOUT XA30, CONTACTED FT MEYERS APCH TO GET FLT FOLLOWING TO PCM. WITHIN A FEW MI OF CLASS C, RSW AIRSPACE, ATC SAID 'PROCEED TO THE LEE COUNTY VOR.' NOT BEING ABLE TO LOCATE THE LEE COUNTY VOR FREQ READILY (ON THE SECTIONAL LEE COUNTY VOR IDENT BOX IS OFFSET APPROX 1 1/2 INCHES BELOW COMPASS ROSE, WAS NOT READILY IN VIEW GIVEN LIMITED SPACE OF COCKPIT) AND NOT WANTING TO INVADE CLASS C AIRSPACE OF RSW, A NE HDG IS TAKEN WHILE CONSULTING THE SECTIONAL FOR VOR FREQ AND HDG. ATC QUESTIONS HDG. I REPLY THAT I'M UNFAMILIAR WITH LEE COUNTY VOR FREQ. ATC THEN REPLIES 'PROCEED ON A HDG OF 310 DEGS.' I CORRECT TO A 310 DEG HDG, PROCEED THROUGH RSW AIRSPACE.
