Narrative:
Leaving tus, was advised transponder not working. Was told to go to a point over a mission hold and fix the problem. While trying to get transponder working, I drifted back to traffic pattern. I noticed the airbus at my altitude just as traffic alert was given and was already turning. More attention should have been paid to flying the airplane. Fix transponder outside of traffic area.
