Narrative:

On a cross country flight from osu airport to highland county airport, I skimmed port columbus airport class C airspace. I was in communication with columbus approach (the osu tower instructed me to call columbus approach) and entered the transponder frequency columbus approach gave me. I was told to switch frequencys and contact columbus approach on the new frequency. When I switched to the new frequency, I could not contact columbus approach. Since I was by now well outside the columbus airport class C airspace, I assumed I no longer was required to contact them. I now realize that I put in the wrong new frequency, and that I should have tried to call columbus approach again on the old frequency, rather than assume it was no longer necessary to communicate with them.

Title: C152 LEAVES CLASS C AIRSPACE AFTER TUNING WRONG FREQ FOR CONTACT WITH ATC.

Narrative: ON A XCOUNTRY FLT FROM OSU ARPT TO HIGHLAND COUNTY ARPT, I SKIMMED PORT COLUMBUS ARPT CLASS C AIRSPACE. I WAS IN COM WITH COLUMBUS APCH (THE OSU TWR INSTRUCTED ME TO CALL COLUMBUS APCH) AND ENTERED THE XPONDER FREQ COLUMBUS APCH GAVE ME. I WAS TOLD TO SWITCH FREQS AND CONTACT COLUMBUS APCH ON THE NEW FREQ. WHEN I SWITCHED TO THE NEW FREQ, I COULD NOT CONTACT COLUMBUS APCH. SINCE I WAS BY NOW WELL OUTSIDE THE COLUMBUS ARPT CLASS C AIRSPACE, I ASSUMED I NO LONGER WAS REQUIRED TO CONTACT THEM. I NOW REALIZE THAT I PUT IN THE WRONG NEW FREQ, AND THAT I SHOULD HAVE TRIED TO CALL COLUMBUS APCH AGAIN ON THE OLD FREQ, RATHER THAN ASSUME IT WAS NO LONGER NECESSARY TO COMMUNICATE WITH THEM.
