Narrative:
I declared an engine out emergency, squawked 7700 on abe 118.2 radio. Engine out was due to lack of fuel in left tank (fuel gauge read full). Switched tanks momentarily to no avail. Upon switching to right tank again and waiting longer second time, engine restarted and flight was completed with no danger to self or any others. FAA contacted me for an explanation. Above account was given and they said no further action would be taken.
