Narrative:

Upon arrival at yul, ground crew reported to cockpit crew that a wing fairing on right side of aircraft fuselage had come loose and bent back by aerodynamic slipstream during some portion of the flight. Coordinated with company flight operations, maintenance and contract maintenance to effect repairs. Repairs were made and crew departed on next flight uneventfully. Cause of failure of wing fairing component unknown. Maintenance indicated to crew that subtle wear and tear may have caused component to fail. Closer inspection of wing fairings of normal preflts may assist in preventing a recurrence. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: the reporter stated the fairing that was damaged was the right wing fuselage body fairing and the leading edge fasteners were missing. The reporter said the maintenance technicians on the gate suspect the fasteners were not properly torqued and vibrated loose.

Narrative: UPON ARR AT YUL, GND CREW RPTED TO COCKPIT CREW THAT A WING FAIRING ON R SIDE OF ACFT FUSELAGE HAD COME LOOSE AND BENT BACK BY AERODYNAMIC SLIPSTREAM DURING SOME PORTION OF THE FLT. COORDINATED WITH COMPANY FLT OPS, MAINT AND CONTRACT MAINT TO EFFECT REPAIRS. REPAIRS WERE MADE AND CREW DEPARTED ON NEXT FLT UNEVENTFULLY. CAUSE OF FAILURE OF WING FAIRING COMPONENT UNKNOWN. MAINT INDICATED TO CREW THAT SUBTLE WEAR AND TEAR MAY HAVE CAUSED COMPONENT TO FAIL. CLOSER INSPECTION OF WING FAIRINGS OF NORMAL PREFLTS MAY ASSIST IN PREVENTING A RECURRENCE. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: THE RPTR STATED THE FAIRING THAT WAS DAMAGED WAS THE R WING FUSELAGE BODY FAIRING AND THE LEADING EDGE FASTENERS WERE MISSING. THE RPTR SAID THE MAINT TECHNICIANS ON THE GATE SUSPECT THE FASTENERS WERE NOT PROPERLY TORQUED AND VIBRATED LOOSE.
