Narrative:

While taxiing in to gate in atl, GA, a B767-200 aircraft crew approached estimated stopping point and observed red ground crew operated stop light illuminate. Captain stopped aircraft in 'normal' fashion. After stopping, ground crew alerted crew that left wingtip had slightly penetrated a window of an adjacent building. Comments from observers: 1) first officer observed aircraft stopping when red light came on. 2) light operator stated he turned on red light prior to when aircraft started stopping. 3) mechanic stated it appeared ground crew tried to stop aircraft on B767-300 line (farther forward) vice B767-200 line. Corrective action recommendations: 1) ground crew using red stop lights to stop aircraft should also simultaneously use a manual (hands crossed over head) signal and stay visible to captain while directing him to a stop. 2) certain gates in atl complex need 'special' attention as B767-200 wings can clip adjacent building (as has previously happened) if taxied too far forward. This potential does not happen to bigger jets (wings farther back) or smaller jets (wing do not extend far enough to strike building). Supplemental information from acn 458024: the green marshalling light was illuminated with wing walkers and the marshalling agent in place. I looked up to see the yellow marshalling light change to red. Immediately I felt the aircraft begin to slow to a stop. About 1 min after stopping, the ground crew connected the interphone cord and told us our left wingtip contacted terminal.

Title: A B767-200 FLC HAD THE WINGTIP CONTACT A BUILDING WINDOW WHILE BEING PARKED AT ATL.

Narrative: WHILE TAXIING IN TO GATE IN ATL, GA, A B767-200 ACFT CREW APCHED ESTIMATED STOPPING POINT AND OBSERVED RED GND CREW OPERATED STOP LIGHT ILLUMINATE. CAPT STOPPED ACFT IN 'NORMAL' FASHION. AFTER STOPPING, GND CREW ALERTED CREW THAT L WINGTIP HAD SLIGHTLY PENETRATED A WINDOW OF AN ADJACENT BUILDING. COMMENTS FROM OBSERVERS: 1) FO OBSERVED ACFT STOPPING WHEN RED LIGHT CAME ON. 2) LIGHT OPERATOR STATED HE TURNED ON RED LIGHT PRIOR TO WHEN ACFT STARTED STOPPING. 3) MECH STATED IT APPEARED GND CREW TRIED TO STOP ACFT ON B767-300 LINE (FARTHER FORWARD) VICE B767-200 LINE. CORRECTIVE ACTION RECOMMENDATIONS: 1) GND CREW USING RED STOP LIGHTS TO STOP ACFT SHOULD ALSO SIMULTANEOUSLY USE A MANUAL (HANDS CROSSED OVER HEAD) SIGNAL AND STAY VISIBLE TO CAPT WHILE DIRECTING HIM TO A STOP. 2) CERTAIN GATES IN ATL COMPLEX NEED 'SPECIAL' ATTN AS B767-200 WINGS CAN CLIP ADJACENT BUILDING (AS HAS PREVIOUSLY HAPPENED) IF TAXIED TOO FAR FORWARD. THIS POTENTIAL DOES NOT HAPPEN TO BIGGER JETS (WINGS FARTHER BACK) OR SMALLER JETS (WING DO NOT EXTEND FAR ENOUGH TO STRIKE BUILDING). SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 458024: THE GREEN MARSHALLING LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED WITH WING WALKERS AND THE MARSHALLING AGENT IN PLACE. I LOOKED UP TO SEE THE YELLOW MARSHALLING LIGHT CHANGE TO RED. IMMEDIATELY I FELT THE ACFT BEGIN TO SLOW TO A STOP. ABOUT 1 MIN AFTER STOPPING, THE GND CREW CONNECTED THE INTERPHONE CORD AND TOLD US OUR L WINGTIP CONTACTED TERMINAL.
