Narrative:
While being marshalled into a parking spot, wingtip of aircraft #1 was allowed to travel beneath wingtip of aircraft #2. There was no signal from wing walker or marshaller to avert this situation. Upon inspection, aircraft missed colliding by inches -- no damage to either aircraft. Better coordination of ground crew would have prevented this possible collision. Wingtips are not easily seen from cockpit and depth perception is difficult. Aircraft #2 was improperly parked, which contributed to situation. Supplemental information from acn 457752: I then quickly glanced at the mechanic (who was still staring at the wingtips) who made no motions or gestures as the captain applied brakes. We set brakes, completed all checklists and discovered the top of our wingtip had grazed the bottom of the other aircraft causing no damage. What good are marshallers? Why would an experienced mechanic just stand and watch a taxi incident and say or do nothing? All I can say is -- 23 yrs till retirement!'

Title: B747 WINGTIP CONTACT DURING PARKING COMPLETE WITH MARSHALLER AND WINGTIP WALKER RAMP PERSONNEL AT OAK.
Narrative: WHILE BEING MARSHALLED INTO A PARKING SPOT, WINGTIP OF ACFT #1 WAS ALLOWED TO TRAVEL BENEATH WINGTIP OF ACFT #2. THERE WAS NO SIGNAL FROM WING WALKER OR MARSHALLER TO AVERT THIS SIT. UPON INSPECTION, ACFT MISSED COLLIDING BY INCHES -- NO DAMAGE TO EITHER ACFT. BETTER COORD OF GND CREW WOULD HAVE PREVENTED THIS POSSIBLE COLLISION. WINGTIPS ARE NOT EASILY SEEN FROM COCKPIT AND DEPTH PERCEPTION IS DIFFICULT. ACFT #2 WAS IMPROPERLY PARKED, WHICH CONTRIBUTED TO SIT. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 457752: I THEN QUICKLY GLANCED AT THE MECH (WHO WAS STILL STARING AT THE WINGTIPS) WHO MADE NO MOTIONS OR GESTURES AS THE CAPT APPLIED BRAKES. WE SET BRAKES, COMPLETED ALL CHKLISTS AND DISCOVERED THE TOP OF OUR WINGTIP HAD GRAZED THE BOTTOM OF THE OTHER ACFT CAUSING NO DAMAGE. WHAT GOOD ARE MARSHALLERS? WHY WOULD AN EXPERIENCED MECH JUST STAND AND WATCH A TAXI INCIDENT AND SAY OR DO NOTHING? ALL I CAN SAY IS -- 23 YRS TILL RETIREMENT!'
