Narrative:

I was told to descend to 9000 ft from an altitude of around 15000 ft. We were at 290 KIAS. I forgot to slow to 250 KTS when descending through 10000 ft, but realized it shortly thereafter. ATC questioned us on our speed. We had been slowing down and answered '250,' however, I should have slowed to 250 KTS before descending below 10000 ft. There were no traffic conflicts, however, it still is important to always keep a close eye on airspeed and remember restrs in altitudes and airspace. I always remind myself to slow when given an altitude that will take me below 10000 ft MSL.

Title: AN AVRO RJ85 FO FAILS TO SLOW TO 250 KTS PRIOR TO DSNDING THROUGH 10000 FT N OF MSP, MN.

Narrative: I WAS TOLD TO DSND TO 9000 FT FROM AN ALT OF AROUND 15000 FT. WE WERE AT 290 KIAS. I FORGOT TO SLOW TO 250 KTS WHEN DSNDING THROUGH 10000 FT, BUT REALIZED IT SHORTLY THEREAFTER. ATC QUESTIONED US ON OUR SPD. WE HAD BEEN SLOWING DOWN AND ANSWERED '250,' HOWEVER, I SHOULD HAVE SLOWED TO 250 KTS BEFORE DSNDING BELOW 10000 FT. THERE WERE NO TFC CONFLICTS, HOWEVER, IT STILL IS IMPORTANT TO ALWAYS KEEP A CLOSE EYE ON AIRSPD AND REMEMBER RESTRS IN ALTS AND AIRSPACE. I ALWAYS REMIND MYSELF TO SLOW WHEN GIVEN AN ALT THAT WILL TAKE ME BELOW 10000 FT MSL.
