Narrative:
On dec/xa/99 I flew an MD88 from mke-lax-mke. Prior to my flight, the aircraft had had its #1 engine changed. I received the aircraft from maintenance for a revenue flight. Everything checked out ok on the receiving checklist, except the FMS on the identify page, which indicated that it had 219 engines. I knew that the engines were 217C but there was no way for me to change that on the identify page. So I left it as it was. Apparently, there must have been a mix-up in engineering, as they did not change that particular page to indicate 217C engines instead of 219 engines. The software problem has since been corrected. I was advised by my superiors that this might have been an FMS technical legality problem. Therefore, I felt I should submit this report.
