Narrative:
I was cleared for takeoff runway 26R at ont. First officer pushed throttles up, however, right engine was slow to respond and it finally began to spool up when aircraft was 400-500 ft down runway. I took control and returned throttles to idle and cleared runway at nearest exit. I returned for takeoff as I felt the engine was just slow in responding and we had used up the first 400- 500 ft of runway and I wanted the full runway available for takeoff. We pushed the throttles up for second attempt and both engines spooled up normally, and takeoff was uneventful. After landing in sea I wrote up right engine for 'slow to respond and lagged left engine.' I also included that the engine had been written up previously 5 days earlier for same problem. Later that same day, I called maintenance control to find out what if any problem was discovered. He said they were replacing the fuel control. He also said it happened every day, first flight of the day.

Title: MD80 CAPT TAKES CTLS AND ABORTS LOW SPD TKOF WHEN #2 ENG WAS SLOW TO SPOOL UP WITH #1 ENG. FO WAS PF. LOGBOOK REFLECTED A SIMILAR PROB 5 DAYS BEFORE.
Narrative: I WAS CLRED FOR TKOF RWY 26R AT ONT. FO PUSHED THROTTLES UP, HOWEVER, R ENG WAS SLOW TO RESPOND AND IT FINALLY BEGAN TO SPOOL UP WHEN ACFT WAS 400-500 FT DOWN RWY. I TOOK CTL AND RETURNED THROTTLES TO IDLE AND CLRED RWY AT NEAREST EXIT. I RETURNED FOR TKOF AS I FELT THE ENG WAS JUST SLOW IN RESPONDING AND WE HAD USED UP THE FIRST 400- 500 FT OF RWY AND I WANTED THE FULL RWY AVAILABLE FOR TKOF. WE PUSHED THE THROTTLES UP FOR SECOND ATTEMPT AND BOTH ENGS SPOOLED UP NORMALLY, AND TKOF WAS UNEVENTFUL. AFTER LNDG IN SEA I WROTE UP R ENG FOR 'SLOW TO RESPOND AND LAGGED L ENG.' I ALSO INCLUDED THAT THE ENG HAD BEEN WRITTEN UP PREVIOUSLY 5 DAYS EARLIER FOR SAME PROB. LATER THAT SAME DAY, I CALLED MAINT CTL TO FIND OUT WHAT IF ANY PROB WAS DISCOVERED. HE SAID THEY WERE REPLACING THE FUEL CTL. HE ALSO SAID IT HAPPENED EVERY DAY, FIRST FLT OF THE DAY.
