Narrative:
Following landing on runway 33L at bwi, we proceeded to taxi per ground instructions to our assigned gate. Entering the ramp, we referenced a construction vehicle and crew on the left edge of the ramp, and a ground vehicle in the gate area to our right. Both captain and first officer visually checked and confirmed the gate safety zone clear. We turned approximately 70-80 degrees to the right, entering the gate area, under the marshaller's instructions. As we proceeded slowly into the gate area, the outer edge of the right wingtip impacted a ground vehicle. With the construction crews at building X there is not sufficient clearance provided turning into this gate. Supplemental information from acn 458538: following marshaller's instructions. The right wingtip struck a ground vehicle that was clear of the safety zone.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: A B737-300 CAPT TAXIES HIS ACFT UNDER MARSHALLER DIRECTIONS AND STRIKES THE R WINGTIP AGAINST A PARKED GND VEHICLE THAT WAS CLR OF THE SAFETY ZONE, BWI, MD.
Narrative: FOLLOWING LNDG ON RWY 33L AT BWI, WE PROCEEDED TO TAXI PER GND INSTRUCTIONS TO OUR ASSIGNED GATE. ENTERING THE RAMP, WE REFED A CONSTRUCTION VEHICLE AND CREW ON THE L EDGE OF THE RAMP, AND A GND VEHICLE IN THE GATE AREA TO OUR R. BOTH CAPT AND FO VISUALLY CHKED AND CONFIRMED THE GATE SAFETY ZONE CLR. WE TURNED APPROX 70-80 DEGS TO THE R, ENTERING THE GATE AREA, UNDER THE MARSHALLER'S INSTRUCTIONS. AS WE PROCEEDED SLOWLY INTO THE GATE AREA, THE OUTER EDGE OF THE R WINGTIP IMPACTED A GND VEHICLE. WITH THE CONSTRUCTION CREWS AT BUILDING X THERE IS NOT SUFFICIENT CLRNC PROVIDED TURNING INTO THIS GATE. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 458538: FOLLOWING MARSHALLER'S INSTRUCTIONS. THE R WINGTIP STRUCK A GND VEHICLE THAT WAS CLR OF THE SAFETY ZONE.
