Problem Areas | Passenger Human Performance |
Primary Problem | Passenger Human Performance |
Narrative:
Passenger locked himself in aft lavatory during landing. He refused to come out. Flight attendant could not gain access, because he was holding door. The passenger began to chant 'kingdom, power, glory' at time we were at final, so I notified cockpit after we braked and it was safe to get up and give them information. New york city police met flight. The passenger came out after we had stopped and told a flight attendant he was scared. The passenger was questioned by police. He was a 19 yr old male. His parents were notified. After about 45 mins of questioning, he was released by soc [airline's security operations] and FAA. Passenger was released to his own custody. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: the reporter said that she was the purser, so she hadn't seen the boy until after they landed and he had come out of the lavatory. The boy seemed to be either retarded or slow and appeared to be a runaway, because he had no luggage. The police and the FAA contacted the boy's uncle, and after talking to him, they released him.
