Narrative:
Due to a leading edge slat asymmetry fault, we got first indication of the problem when the flaps were extended. Notified tower, leveled off to assess the situation. Then we ran the appropriate procedure and declared an emergency with lax approach control. After completing all emergency and normal checklists, we requested vectors for another approach at lax. We landed at lax uneventfully and terminated the emergency after clearing the runway. Dispatch was not notified due to time considerations. Upon parking, the voice recorder circuit breaker forgotten in haste to reassure passenger safety concerns while deplaning.
