Narrative:

First officer was PF and talking on the radio, while I was running checklists. She advised me we were cleared for takeoff and she began the takeoff roll. I was unclr about the clearance, so I doublechked. We were not cleared. I tried to abort takeoff, but runway was covered with snow and braking action was poor. Midfield, I decided to continue takeoff citing there was no traffic in the area, and did not want to put the aircraft in the ocean. Tower controller later advised me that she did have our clearance to take off, there was no traffic, and we were ok. Corrective actions taken were formal discipline of first officer. I will take the time to slow down and doublechk clrncs.
