Narrative:
As I retarded the throttles at top of descent, #2 engine vibration light came on pilot's caution and warning panel. Light also came on at so station. Left #2 throttle at idle and worked abnormal procedure in accordance with pom. As directed by pom, I advanced #2 throttle and vibrations increased (pegged out). We then shut down #2 engine, declared an emergency, and received handling from atl approach to the ILS to runway 9R. Uneventful landing was made and the emergency equipment was then released. Taxi to gate, unassisted, was normal. In short, we handled it like we were trained to handle it in training.
