Narrative:
A passenger was caught smoking in the lavatory. Flight attendant #2 confronted the passenger and told him to stop smoking. The passenger threatened flight attendant #2 by saying if he said he was smoking again, he would punch him in the face. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: the reporter said that the passenger was quite anxious about not being able to smoke and kept coming back to the galley and asking about which flts he could smoke on, eg, international, etc. He also came back to the galley at least 5 times, asking for extra chocolates from their snack service. The reporter thought that the chocolates were to curb his craving to smoke. He was in the lavatory and billows of smoke were coming out. Flight attendant #2 kept knocking on the lavatory door and shouting for the passenger to quit smoking. In a rage, the passenger came out of the lavatory and threatened the flight attendant. The flight attendant went up to the cockpit and informed the captain, who gave him a form with a written warning of the FARS the man had violated. The man was quiet the rest of the flight. No auths were called to meet the flight.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: CABIN ATTENDANT RPT, B767-200, BOS-LAX. PAX CAUGHT SMOKING IN LAVATORY, THREATENED TO PUNCH CABIN ATTENDANT #2 IN THE FACE.
Narrative: A PAX WAS CAUGHT SMOKING IN THE LAVATORY. FLT ATTENDANT #2 CONFRONTED THE PAX AND TOLD HIM TO STOP SMOKING. THE PAX THREATENED FLT ATTENDANT #2 BY SAYING IF HE SAID HE WAS SMOKING AGAIN, HE WOULD PUNCH HIM IN THE FACE. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: THE RPTR SAID THAT THE PAX WAS QUITE ANXIOUS ABOUT NOT BEING ABLE TO SMOKE AND KEPT COMING BACK TO THE GALLEY AND ASKING ABOUT WHICH FLTS HE COULD SMOKE ON, EG, INTL, ETC. HE ALSO CAME BACK TO THE GALLEY AT LEAST 5 TIMES, ASKING FOR EXTRA CHOCOLATES FROM THEIR SNACK SVC. THE RPTR THOUGHT THAT THE CHOCOLATES WERE TO CURB HIS CRAVING TO SMOKE. HE WAS IN THE LAVATORY AND BILLOWS OF SMOKE WERE COMING OUT. FLT ATTENDANT #2 KEPT KNOCKING ON THE LAVATORY DOOR AND SHOUTING FOR THE PAX TO QUIT SMOKING. IN A RAGE, THE PAX CAME OUT OF THE LAVATORY AND THREATENED THE FLT ATTENDANT. THE FLT ATTENDANT WENT UP TO THE COCKPIT AND INFORMED THE CAPT, WHO GAVE HIM A FORM WITH A WRITTEN WARNING OF THE FARS THE MAN HAD VIOLATED. THE MAN WAS QUIET THE REST OF THE FLT. NO AUTHS WERE CALLED TO MEET THE FLT.
