Narrative:

Flight attendant and passenger noticed odor from l-hand mid cabin lavatory. The odor caused headaches and appeared to get stronger. We diverted to phx and landed. We found the odor was caused by glue in lavatory that held rubber trim. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: the reporter stated that the smell smelled like an electrical burning smell, and captain came back to check out the smell and thought it wise to divert to phoenix. When they got to phoenix, the mechanics told them that the plane had just undergone a 'B' check the night before, and the mechanic brought back the rubber trim to the reporter and asked if this was the smell. The mechanics doing the 'B' check had, evidently, put on way too much glue on the rubber trim. The phoenix mechanics scraped off the excess glue and, after a 1 hour delay, the plane continued without further incident.

Title: CABIN ATTENDANT RPT, B767, LAX-ORD. TOXIC TYPE GLUE FUMES FROM LAVATORY GAVE EVERYONE HEADACHES. DIVERT TO PHX FOR MAINT CHK.

Narrative: FLT ATTENDANT AND PAX NOTICED ODOR FROM L-HAND MID CABIN LAVATORY. THE ODOR CAUSED HEADACHES AND APPEARED TO GET STRONGER. WE DIVERTED TO PHX AND LANDED. WE FOUND THE ODOR WAS CAUSED BY GLUE IN LAVATORY THAT HELD RUBBER TRIM. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: THE RPTR STATED THAT THE SMELL SMELLED LIKE AN ELECTRICAL BURNING SMELL, AND CAPT CAME BACK TO CHK OUT THE SMELL AND THOUGHT IT WISE TO DIVERT TO PHOENIX. WHEN THEY GOT TO PHOENIX, THE MECHS TOLD THEM THAT THE PLANE HAD JUST UNDERGONE A 'B' CHK THE NIGHT BEFORE, AND THE MECH BROUGHT BACK THE RUBBER TRIM TO THE RPTR AND ASKED IF THIS WAS THE SMELL. THE MECHS DOING THE 'B' CHK HAD, EVIDENTLY, PUT ON WAY TOO MUCH GLUE ON THE RUBBER TRIM. THE PHOENIX MECHS SCRAPED OFF THE EXCESS GLUE AND, AFTER A 1 HR DELAY, THE PLANE CONTINUED WITHOUT FURTHER INCIDENT.
