Narrative:

Chain of events: I was the first officer trainee sitting in the right seat, captain was in left seat. ATC assigned us an altitude of FL240, which was set in the dinger. We were preoccupied talking about a previous flight situation when the dinger went off at FL230. Before we knew it, we passed FL240 to FL245 briefly and we immediately got back down to FL240. This set off a TCASII in an airliner, which we were told by ATC, which had to deviate its heading. The root cause of the incident was the distraction of our conversation. It was not intentional and will never happen again.
