Narrative:
The night flight departed daytona beach, fl, (dab) for a VFR night flight to winter haven, fl (gif). Route planned was to intercept V152 at 1500 ft MSL (211 degree radial from omn) until 25 NM from lal VOR off the 030 degree radial, which is off the 030 degree radial off lal VOR. Then the flight would resume visually to the south, searching for the rotating beacon at gif. When I intercepted V152, I noticed I was south of course, in comparison to my current VFR sectional chart. I searched to find my position finding both my vors indicated approximately 10 degrees differential. I noted that orl was off my right. Keeping clear of the class D airspace, I turned from a southwest heading to a westerly heading. When I tried to keep clear of class D airspace at orl, I may have touched the edge of the class B airspace to my left at mco. I was careful to avoid any traffic and departed between the 2 airports at a heading of 270 degrees. I had previously terminated radar with dab just south of deland (ded). I was not in communications with anyone at the time of the possible interference. I feel even though this was a VFR flight, that I should have used the vot check to check the accuracy of my VOR's. Continuing with flight following with orl may have been a useful aid as well. The reason I did not was because in the past when I have traveled a similar route, ATC usually informs me to just remain clear of class B airspace.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: PLT OF A PIPER CHEROKEE PA28 BECAME DISORIENTED DURING A NIGHT FLT RESULTING IN ENTERING CLASS B AIRSPACE.
Narrative: THE NIGHT FLT DEPARTED DAYTONA BEACH, FL, (DAB) FOR A VFR NIGHT FLT TO WINTER HAVEN, FL (GIF). RTE PLANNED WAS TO INTERCEPT V152 AT 1500 FT MSL (211 DEG RADIAL FROM OMN) UNTIL 25 NM FROM LAL VOR OFF THE 030 DEG RADIAL, WHICH IS OFF THE 030 DEG RADIAL OFF LAL VOR. THEN THE FLT WOULD RESUME VISUALLY TO THE S, SEARCHING FOR THE ROTATING BEACON AT GIF. WHEN I INTERCEPTED V152, I NOTICED I WAS S OF COURSE, IN COMPARISON TO MY CURRENT VFR SECTIONAL CHART. I SEARCHED TO FIND MY POS FINDING BOTH MY VORS INDICATED APPROX 10 DEGS DIFFERENTIAL. I NOTED THAT ORL WAS OFF MY R. KEEPING CLR OF THE CLASS D AIRSPACE, I TURNED FROM A SW HDG TO A WESTERLY HDG. WHEN I TRIED TO KEEP CLR OF CLASS D AIRSPACE AT ORL, I MAY HAVE TOUCHED THE EDGE OF THE CLASS B AIRSPACE TO MY L AT MCO. I WAS CAREFUL TO AVOID ANY TFC AND DEPARTED BTWN THE 2 ARPTS AT A HDG OF 270 DEGS. I HAD PREVIOUSLY TERMINATED RADAR WITH DAB JUST S OF DELAND (DED). I WAS NOT IN COMS WITH ANYONE AT THE TIME OF THE POSSIBLE INTERFERENCE. I FEEL EVEN THOUGH THIS WAS A VFR FLT, THAT I SHOULD HAVE USED THE VOT CHK TO CHK THE ACCURACY OF MY VOR'S. CONTINUING WITH FLT FOLLOWING WITH ORL MAY HAVE BEEN A USEFUL AID AS WELL. THE REASON I DID NOT WAS BECAUSE IN THE PAST WHEN I HAVE TRAVELED A SIMILAR RTE, ATC USUALLY INFORMS ME TO JUST REMAIN CLR OF CLASS B AIRSPACE.
