Narrative:
While heading north to dtw on mizar arrival, a little north of dayton, we were given a heading to join the arrival north of dayton. We (copilot and myself) thought the clearance was to join the 246 degree radial to crl VOR inbound, but 1 or 2 controllers later told us to join the dayton VOR 360 degree radial. We may have misunderstood the clearance and as a result we were east of course.
