Narrative:
Approaching aubrn fix on chins 2 arrival into seattle (tacoma international) airport, got TCASII TA, followed shortly after by an RA and noted an aircraft climbing slowly towards our altitude at our 11 O'clock position within 5 mi and within 500 ft of our altitude. When TCASII RA occurred, we took evasive action by climbing 1200 ft (to 11200 ft MSL) and turning right approximately 45 degrees. During our climbing turn, we advised ATC of our actions. During climb the RA/conflict ceased (as the other aircraft passed behind us) and we descended back down to 10000 ft MSL and turned back towards aubrn fix to resume the chins 2 arrival -- notifying ATC again of our current actions. When queried by us, the controller told us the conflicting aircraft was an air carrier Y flight. No other information was offered.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: FLC OF A B767-300 CLBED AND TURNED, DURING AN ARR STAR, IN RESPONSE TO A TCASII RA FROM ANOTHER ACFT CLBING TOWARD THEIR POS AND ALT.
Narrative: APCHING AUBRN FIX ON CHINS 2 ARR INTO SEATTLE (TACOMA INTL) ARPT, GOT TCASII TA, FOLLOWED SHORTLY AFTER BY AN RA AND NOTED AN ACFT CLBING SLOWLY TOWARDS OUR ALT AT OUR 11 O'CLOCK POS WITHIN 5 MI AND WITHIN 500 FT OF OUR ALT. WHEN TCASII RA OCCURRED, WE TOOK EVASIVE ACTION BY CLBING 1200 FT (TO 11200 FT MSL) AND TURNING R APPROX 45 DEGS. DURING OUR CLBING TURN, WE ADVISED ATC OF OUR ACTIONS. DURING CLB THE RA/CONFLICT CEASED (AS THE OTHER ACFT PASSED BEHIND US) AND WE DSNDED BACK DOWN TO 10000 FT MSL AND TURNED BACK TOWARDS AUBRN FIX TO RESUME THE CHINS 2 ARR -- NOTIFYING ATC AGAIN OF OUR CURRENT ACTIONS. WHEN QUERIED BY US, THE CTLR TOLD US THE CONFLICTING ACFT WAS AN ACR Y FLT. NO OTHER INFO WAS OFFERED.
