Narrative:
Lax ground controller used unprofessional and demoralizing language and tone of voice during pushback request from gate. First officer requested pushback and was harshly told to 'standby.' after a few moments ground issued push clearance to an aircraft and the transmission was partially blocked. I had the first officer query the controller, and the ground controller literally yelled at us on frequency 121.65, and then said 'when I am ready, I'll let you know when you can push.' this was very unprofessional and also demoralizing to my first officer, who has been at this company only a few months. He was so disturbed by the event, that his full attention was not on the safe operation of the aircraft.
