Narrative:
We were receiving vectors for an ILS runway 28L approach into pit airport. After several vectors involving altitude and heading changes, our controller called us and stated 'I do not know what you are doing, but you are not flying the heading I assigned to you. Descend immediately and turn to heading 070 degrees.' at that moment our TCASII indicated converging traffic at 2 O'clock and 1 1/2 mi. We quickly descended to avoid the traffic. Once on the ground I called pit approach control to better understand what went wrong. After reviewing the tapes the supervisor verified that we had not missed any calls and we had flown as instructed. Apparently our controller assigned our heading change to another aircraft.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: BE1900 FLC HAD TO TAKE EVASIVE ACTION TO MISS OTHER TFC. AFTER REVIEWING TAPES WITH ATC SUPVR, IT WAS FOUND THAT THE HDG INTENDED FOR THEM WAS ACTUALLY GIVEN TO ANOTHER ACFT.
Narrative: WE WERE RECEIVING VECTORS FOR AN ILS RWY 28L APCH INTO PIT ARPT. AFTER SEVERAL VECTORS INVOLVING ALT AND HDG CHANGES, OUR CTLR CALLED US AND STATED 'I DO NOT KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING, BUT YOU ARE NOT FLYING THE HDG I ASSIGNED TO YOU. DSND IMMEDIATELY AND TURN TO HDG 070 DEGS.' AT THAT MOMENT OUR TCASII INDICATED CONVERGING TFC AT 2 O'CLOCK AND 1 1/2 MI. WE QUICKLY DSNDED TO AVOID THE TFC. ONCE ON THE GND I CALLED PIT APCH CTL TO BETTER UNDERSTAND WHAT WENT WRONG. AFTER REVIEWING THE TAPES THE SUPVR VERIFIED THAT WE HAD NOT MISSED ANY CALLS AND WE HAD FLOWN AS INSTRUCTED. APPARENTLY OUR CTLR ASSIGNED OUR HDG CHANGE TO ANOTHER ACFT.
