Narrative:
Cleared for takeoff runway 27 at ptk after receiving a clearance for the pontiac 8 departure. When I reached 1400 ft, I proceeded to make a turn direct score intersection as filed (approximately 180 degrees). Detroit departure then came on and said that I should be on a runway heading. I told him that I was following the pontiac 8 departure -- that there must have been a misunderstanding from the tower. I then asked for a heading to fly for separation. He gave me 090 degrees, which I adhered to immediately. I then followed vectors as assigned till eventually reaching score intersection.

Title: CPR PLT DEPARTING PTK ON PTK 8 DEP TURNS AT 1400 FT AND THEN IS QUESTIONED BY DEP CTL ABOUT HDG.
Narrative: CLRED FOR TKOF RWY 27 AT PTK AFTER RECEIVING A CLRNC FOR THE PONTIAC 8 DEP. WHEN I REACHED 1400 FT, I PROCEEDED TO MAKE A TURN DIRECT SCORE INTXN AS FILED (APPROX 180 DEGS). DETROIT DEP THEN CAME ON AND SAID THAT I SHOULD BE ON A RWY HDG. I TOLD HIM THAT I WAS FOLLOWING THE PONTIAC 8 DEP -- THAT THERE MUST HAVE BEEN A MISUNDERSTANDING FROM THE TWR. I THEN ASKED FOR A HDG TO FLY FOR SEPARATION. HE GAVE ME 090 DEGS, WHICH I ADHERED TO IMMEDIATELY. I THEN FOLLOWED VECTORS AS ASSIGNED TILL EVENTUALLY REACHING SCORE INTXN.
