Narrative:
We were given a crossing restr of 9000 ft at krenna, but crossed krenna at 10000 ft. Both the first officer (PF) and I misread the intersection DME and thought we had 6 more mi than we actually did to meet the restr. Center asked if we would be able to make the restr, and we said 'yes,' thinking we had the necessary distance. About that time, center gave us a radio frequency change, and we realized we were at 10000 ft at krenna, instead of 9000 ft. This problem was strictly a result of misreading the approach place, and I believe the problem can be avoided in the future by reading the plate more closely.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: DC9 FLC DID NOT COMPLY WITH XING RESTR.
Narrative: WE WERE GIVEN A XING RESTR OF 9000 FT AT KRENNA, BUT CROSSED KRENNA AT 10000 FT. BOTH THE FO (PF) AND I MISREAD THE INTXN DME AND THOUGHT WE HAD 6 MORE MI THAN WE ACTUALLY DID TO MEET THE RESTR. CTR ASKED IF WE WOULD BE ABLE TO MAKE THE RESTR, AND WE SAID 'YES,' THINKING WE HAD THE NECESSARY DISTANCE. ABOUT THAT TIME, CTR GAVE US A RADIO FREQ CHANGE, AND WE REALIZED WE WERE AT 10000 FT AT KRENNA, INSTEAD OF 9000 FT. THIS PROB WAS STRICTLY A RESULT OF MISREADING THE APCH PLACE, AND I BELIEVE THE PROB CAN BE AVOIDED IN THE FUTURE BY READING THE PLATE MORE CLOSELY.
