Narrative:

While flying a B737 on a ferry flight from ewr to frg, we were advised by ATC to deviate from the normal SID. Upon landing at frg, we were requested to call new york TRACON. Upon speaking with the supervisor, we were advised that the deviation was unwarranted and that the controller, who was working departures, was unaware that our takeoff runway was runway 11, and he had thought that we had departed from runway 4R or runway 4L. Therefore, he had assumed that our runway heading was not correct, thereby causing him to give us a heading that was a deviation from the normal SID for runway 11. He admitted that the instructions from ATC were not correct and that there was bad communication between the tower and the TRACON departure controllers.
