Narrative:
ZME cleared air carrier xy from FL290 to FL330. Both captain and first officer heard the clearance. Captain acknowledged, 'out of FL290 for FL330, air carrier xy.' first officer began climb and put FL330 in altitude window. At FL307 center asked 'air carrier xy, where you going?' captain replied 'FL330.' ATC said we were only cleared to FL290. Captain replied 'you cleared us from FL290 to FL330 and I read that back to you.' ATC stated that he had replied to our readback by saying that the clearance was for another aircraft. Neither pilot heard that call.
