Narrative:
A passenger rang a call light to advise that smoke was coming out of the overhead bin. I advised cockpit immediately that there was smoke in cabin, before proceeding to the area. The fire department came out and could not find the source of light smoke and the terrible smell. We requested an evacuate/evacuation. We used the aft tailcone stairs -- no slides. We asked the passenger not to take their bags, most complied. Passenger reactions surprised me. They seemed almost calm, perhaps they were stunned and scared. Their eyes were big and wide, and they looked to us for direction.
