Narrative:
During en route descent for landing in aruba (reina beatrix international), at approximately 9000 ft MSL, I spotted an airbus approximately 10 mi to our east at almost our same altitude. As we were north of aruba airport and landing was east (runway 11), I told the tower that it appeared to me we were ahead of the airbus for landing. The airbus responded with something like 'no way.' on final we lost sight of the airbus and as we felt too close for comfort, requested a 360 degree turn which was granted. The airbus (captain?) made several comments to the effect that we were at fault and a hazard. After the 360 degree turn, we spotted the airbus on short final and completed the visual approach and landing with no problem. Note: because of a previous emergency into beatrix international several yrs ago, I was aware that they had limited terminal radar and was hoping they would allow us the #1 slot (primarily for fuel savings reasons).

Narrative: DURING ENRTE DSCNT FOR LNDG IN ARUBA (REINA BEATRIX INTL), AT APPROX 9000 FT MSL, I SPOTTED AN AIRBUS APPROX 10 MI TO OUR E AT ALMOST OUR SAME ALT. AS WE WERE N OF ARUBA ARPT AND LNDG WAS E (RWY 11), I TOLD THE TWR THAT IT APPEARED TO ME WE WERE AHEAD OF THE AIRBUS FOR LNDG. THE AIRBUS RESPONDED WITH SOMETHING LIKE 'NO WAY.' ON FINAL WE LOST SIGHT OF THE AIRBUS AND AS WE FELT TOO CLOSE FOR COMFORT, REQUESTED A 360 DEG TURN WHICH WAS GRANTED. THE AIRBUS (CAPT?) MADE SEVERAL COMMENTS TO THE EFFECT THAT WE WERE AT FAULT AND A HAZARD. AFTER THE 360 DEG TURN, WE SPOTTED THE AIRBUS ON SHORT FINAL AND COMPLETED THE VISUAL APCH AND LNDG WITH NO PROB. NOTE: BECAUSE OF A PREVIOUS EMER INTO BEATRIX INTL SEVERAL YRS AGO, I WAS AWARE THAT THEY HAD LIMITED TERMINAL RADAR AND WAS HOPING THEY WOULD ALLOW US THE #1 SLOT (PRIMARILY FOR FUEL SAVINGS REASONS).
