Narrative:

While on a radar patrol, our F-16 radar picked up a target that was 5.4 mi on our nose and 500 ft above our altitude. I looked up and saw an air carrier widebody transport converging with us. I immediately turned right 90 degrees and questioned our controling agency, why he had not called out the traffic. No excuse was given, however, he advised me that we were on an 'air route.' I don't believe that safety was compromised, but I was not happy with our agency's flight following.
