Narrative:
On an IFR flight plan, from agc to mkl, we were cleared direct tvt direct mkl. Approximately 25 mi before reaching tvt, we were cleared direct bowling green direct mkl at FL180. We were then handed off to ZID from ZOB. We were then handed off to ZID from ZOB. We were then handed off to 2 more sectors and then we heard nothing for several mi (approximately 15 mins). We then received an airspace alert on the GPS. We called the ZID controller, who could not even find our flight plan. We then contacted ZME, who had us in radar contact and had our flight plan. He proceeded to vector us out of the restr area and then canceled the vector and told us to proceed on course because the restr area was no longer active. I believe the ZID controller should have tried to reach us if we did not acknowledge a frequency change. I believe he just forgot us!
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: A BE200 FLC ENTERS A RESTR AREA WHILE EXPERIENCING A LOSS OF RADIO CONTACT WITH ZID CTLR 100 MI N OF MKL, TN.
Narrative: ON AN IFR FLT PLAN, FROM AGC TO MKL, WE WERE CLRED DIRECT TVT DIRECT MKL. APPROX 25 MI BEFORE REACHING TVT, WE WERE CLRED DIRECT BOWLING GREEN DIRECT MKL AT FL180. WE WERE THEN HANDED OFF TO ZID FROM ZOB. WE WERE THEN HANDED OFF TO ZID FROM ZOB. WE WERE THEN HANDED OFF TO 2 MORE SECTORS AND THEN WE HEARD NOTHING FOR SEVERAL MI (APPROX 15 MINS). WE THEN RECEIVED AN AIRSPACE ALERT ON THE GPS. WE CALLED THE ZID CTLR, WHO COULD NOT EVEN FIND OUR FLT PLAN. WE THEN CONTACTED ZME, WHO HAD US IN RADAR CONTACT AND HAD OUR FLT PLAN. HE PROCEEDED TO VECTOR US OUT OF THE RESTR AREA AND THEN CANCELED THE VECTOR AND TOLD US TO PROCEED ON COURSE BECAUSE THE RESTR AREA WAS NO LONGER ACTIVE. I BELIEVE THE ZID CTLR SHOULD HAVE TRIED TO REACH US IF WE DID NOT ACKNOWLEDGE A FREQ CHANGE. I BELIEVE HE JUST FORGOT US!
