Narrative:
After departing bos en route to jfk the aircraft's central warning panel displayed a problem with bleed air. We completed the checklist procedures, however were unable to resolve problem. This particular checklist was rather vague but the last thing it said was to 'consider engine shutdown.' due to the fact that we had no secondary indications I elected to not shut down the engine but instead make an immediate diversion to providence. Providence approach gave us a vector that put us on a 20 mi final for runway 5. Due to fact that we went from en route phase flight to landing in about 3-4 mins I had to prioritize flying duties and therefore neglected to notify our dispatch of the diversion. Upon landing we shut down affected engine and came to a stop immediately exiting runway to allow the fire trucks to inspect the engine. In doing so we blocked use of the runway for about 5 mins. After receiving the go ahead from the fire department we taxied to gate.

Title: AN SF340 FLT DIVERTS TO PVD WHEN THE BLEED AIR CHKLIST WAS VAGUE ABOUT AN INFLT ENG SHUTDOWN WHILE ON FREQ WITH ZBW, MA.
Narrative: AFTER DEPARTING BOS ENRTE TO JFK THE ACFT'S CENTRAL WARNING PANEL DISPLAYED A PROB WITH BLEED AIR. WE COMPLETED THE CHKLIST PROCS, HOWEVER WERE UNABLE TO RESOLVE PROB. THIS PARTICULAR CHKLIST WAS RATHER VAGUE BUT THE LAST THING IT SAID WAS TO 'CONSIDER ENG SHUTDOWN.' DUE TO THE FACT THAT WE HAD NO SECONDARY INDICATIONS I ELECTED TO NOT SHUT DOWN THE ENG BUT INSTEAD MAKE AN IMMEDIATE DIVERSION TO PROVIDENCE. PROVIDENCE APCH GAVE US A VECTOR THAT PUT US ON A 20 MI FINAL FOR RWY 5. DUE TO FACT THAT WE WENT FROM ENRTE PHASE FLT TO LNDG IN ABOUT 3-4 MINS I HAD TO PRIORITIZE FLYING DUTIES AND THEREFORE NEGLECTED TO NOTIFY OUR DISPATCH OF THE DIVERSION. UPON LNDG WE SHUT DOWN AFFECTED ENG AND CAME TO A STOP IMMEDIATELY EXITING RWY TO ALLOW THE FIRE TRUCKS TO INSPECT THE ENG. IN DOING SO WE BLOCKED USE OF THE RWY FOR ABOUT 5 MINS. AFTER RECEIVING THE GO AHEAD FROM THE FIRE DEPT WE TAXIED TO GATE.
