Narrative:
On departure wbound from lake hood strip, anchorage, ak, approximately 15 mi away, the elevator trim became stuck due to something in the system most likely freezing. I was under radar advisory control and asked for a return to lake hood strip. I started a descent and headed eastbound after advising the controller. On descent, the trim started to work and I decided to reverse course again and proceed towards my original destination wbound. At that point the controller advised me of a B747, I acknowledged the B747 and stated I was planning to reverse course again wbound. The frequency was very congested and the controller, as I remember, talked to another aircraft immediately. A few mins later the controller asked if I was wbound and sounded surprised. I advised him I asked for permission and he stated I must have been stepped on. There was no conflict with any other aircraft as far as I know. In hindsight, it would have been better to wait for the controller clearly acknowledging prior to making the last turn.
