Narrative:
On apr/xa/00 we departed mia, when we were cleared to 5000 ft. Then we contacted mia departure and they cleared us to 7000 ft. When we were passing 6400 ft, the controller came back to us and told us that we were not cleared to 7000 ft, but that we could continue the climb to 7000 ft. The captain and I were (and we still are) certain that we were cleared to 7000 ft.
