Narrative:
Cleared visual approach to runway 7L at lax. Approach control asked us to keep speed up for traffic on extended final to runway 7L. Turned onto final about 1500 ft AGL, 5 mi from runway. While configuring and descending, tower cleared a B747 into position. About 1 1/2 - 2 mi from runway, tower cleared B747 for takeoff. We were about 1 mi from runway before he appeared to roll. I asked the captain which way he wanted to turn if we had to go around. That B747 seemed to roll forever down the runway before he lifted off. I guess we were about 50 ft AGL when he did. We landed, but I felt the jetwash and/or wingtip vortices in the flare. This was close! I definitely learned a lesson about B747 spacing!
