Narrative:
Due to poor arrival sequencing, we were vectored onto the expressway visual runway 31 approach at lga high and inside dials intersection. When asked by lga tower if we had our traffic in sight, we said yes, it was on short final. They said no, it was at 1:30 O'clock position (on a 6 mi final, way outside the expressway visual runway 31 flight path). We maneuvered around it and landed.
