Narrative:
Upon arrival of the flight in A20, the crew that was taking over the aircraft brought to our attention that a sticker, which is used to indicate flap position (8 degrees and 20 degrees) on the external area of the aircraft in the proximity of the flaps was missing. This sticker is used by the company to indicate flap position during training, per airworthiness directive 98-20-01, when conducting multiple takeoffs and lndgs. We, the crew, recall that sticker being on the aircraft before flight was operated. There is no way, for sure, for us to know if that sticker was there other than trying to recall the past preflts to the best of our ability. This sticker was not a deferrable item and the crew taking over the aircraft had to ferry the aircraft back to cvg. In the future it would be more important for the crew member conducting the preflight to be more vigilant of everything on the aircraft.
