Narrative:
We were talking with ZID on 126.57. We were given a clearance to descend to 11000 ft from FL190. The first officer was on radio #2 making our in-range call to roa per the company checklist leaving FL180. ZID then told us to maintain 15000 ft as we were out of 16000 ft. I read back 12000 ft, because that was what I thought I heard from center. There was no correction from ZID. At 14000 ft, center called and said 'level off at 15000 ft.' I replied 'we are already through 15000 ft, we will climb back up to 15000 ft.' I then told center I had read back 12000 ft the previous transmission. ZID replied 'no problem, maintain 13000 ft now.' there was no traffic conflict involved. If ATC had given me 15000 ft, he should have corrected me when I read back 12000 ft. We need to go back to the old resolutions where it's the controller's responsibility to catch incorrect readbacks, as it is a safety issue.

Title: A CL65-RJ FLT OVERSHOOTS ITS ASSIGNED ALT WHEN THE CAPT, PF, READS BACK THE WRONG ALT AND IS NOT CORRECTED BY CTLR WORKING ZDC, DC.
Narrative: WE WERE TALKING WITH ZID ON 126.57. WE WERE GIVEN A CLRNC TO DSND TO 11000 FT FROM FL190. THE FO WAS ON RADIO #2 MAKING OUR IN-RANGE CALL TO ROA PER THE COMPANY CHKLIST LEAVING FL180. ZID THEN TOLD US TO MAINTAIN 15000 FT AS WE WERE OUT OF 16000 FT. I READ BACK 12000 FT, BECAUSE THAT WAS WHAT I THOUGHT I HEARD FROM CTR. THERE WAS NO CORRECTION FROM ZID. AT 14000 FT, CTR CALLED AND SAID 'LEVEL OFF AT 15000 FT.' I REPLIED 'WE ARE ALREADY THROUGH 15000 FT, WE WILL CLB BACK UP TO 15000 FT.' I THEN TOLD CTR I HAD READ BACK 12000 FT THE PREVIOUS XMISSION. ZID REPLIED 'NO PROB, MAINTAIN 13000 FT NOW.' THERE WAS NO TFC CONFLICT INVOLVED. IF ATC HAD GIVEN ME 15000 FT, HE SHOULD HAVE CORRECTED ME WHEN I READ BACK 12000 FT. WE NEED TO GO BACK TO THE OLD RESOLUTIONS WHERE IT'S THE CTLR'S RESPONSIBILITY TO CATCH INCORRECT READBACKS, AS IT IS A SAFETY ISSUE.
