Narrative:
I was returning to love field (dal) and was flying a right downwind to land runway 13L (tower cleared me to land runway 13L). While turning base, I lost visual contact with the runway complex. Once on base leg, I began looking for the runway. In my mind, I was thinking the base turn took long enough to set me up on runway 13L. I saw the runway lights and turned final. I landed on runway 13R. I was close enough to the airport that runway 13L was never visible. After landing, the tower controller asked where I park and then said 'you appear to have landed on runway 13R.' she didn't seem too upset about it, I was horrified. Even though this did not cause a conflict, I realize how it could have, had the airport been busy. I've got to maintain situational awareness, right up to when I shut down the engine at the end of the flight. I've got to continue reevaluating my decisions until I am committed to a course of action. This will not happen again.

Narrative: I WAS RETURNING TO LOVE FIELD (DAL) AND WAS FLYING A R DOWNWIND TO LAND RWY 13L (TWR CLRED ME TO LAND RWY 13L). WHILE TURNING BASE, I LOST VISUAL CONTACT WITH THE RWY COMPLEX. I WAS CLOSE ENOUGH TO THE ARPT THAT RWY 13L WAS NEVER VISIBLE. AFTER LNDG, THE TWR CTLR ASKED WHERE I PARK AND THEN SAID 'YOU APPEAR TO HAVE LANDED ON RWY 13R.' SHE DIDN'T SEEM TOO UPSET ABOUT IT, I WAS HORRIFIED. EVEN THOUGH THIS DID NOT CAUSE A CONFLICT, I REALIZE HOW IT COULD HAVE, HAD THE ARPT BEEN BUSY. I'VE GOT TO MAINTAIN SITUATIONAL AWARENESS, RIGHT UP TO WHEN I SHUT DOWN THE ENG AT THE END OF THE FLT. I'VE GOT TO CONTINUE REEVALUATING MY DECISIONS UNTIL I AM COMMITTED TO A COURSE OF ACTION.
