Narrative:

After takeoff on a hot standby assignment the main gear would not properly retract. After following the appropriate checklists, talking to flight control, and maintenance, the decision was made to return to sdf. All hydraulic system with the exception of the gear operated normally. Abnormal hydraulic indications were noted and system pressure was normal. The landing was uneventful. After the aircraft was secured we debrief with maintenance in the cockpit. A day later I was informed that the hydraulic system selector was found out of the normal detent. I did my normal preflight which includes checking the hydraulic system selector. The hydraulic system selector was left in the normal position. Again, during the flight all hydraulic system with exception of the main gear operated normally.
