Narrative:
We landed mco on runway 17. I turned north on taxiway H. I understood ground control tell us to taxi via taxiway G, so I jogged over to taxiway G at H7. We were parking at gate X. An rj was taxiing east on taxiway east and turned north on taxiway G in front of us. We never heard about him or from him. All our exit lights were illuminated. We slowed and stopped in plenty of time to avoid him. Taxi was resumed without incident. The ground controller seemed to believe we were still on taxiway H.
