Narrative:
Approximately 20 mi southwest EMI at FL310 mach .84 ZDC told us to fly 250 degree heading climb and maintain FL350. First officer asked me if the altitude was FL350 and I said yes. At approximately FL340 center called and said our assigned altitude was FL330. We started to descend and immediately was reclred to FL390.

Title: B777 CREW HAD ALT OVERSHOOT IN ZDC CLASS A.
Narrative: APPROX 20 MI SW EMI AT FL310 MACH .84 ZDC TOLD US TO FLY 250 DEG HDG CLB AND MAINTAIN FL350. FO ASKED ME IF THE ALT WAS FL350 AND I SAID YES. AT APPROX FL340 CTR CALLED AND SAID OUR ASSIGNED ALT WAS FL330. WE STARTED TO DSND AND IMMEDIATELY WAS RECLRED TO FL390.
