Narrative:
Halfway between cwk and gig, a strong smell of fuel was detected in the main cabin, around the left side window exits. The captain decided to have the fire trucks ready as we landed. As a precaution, we stopped away from the terminal and they used buses to xfer passenger and crew. We were never told that an evacuate/evacuation was necessary. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: the reporter stated that the plane and crew did a gig-cwf-gig turn around in 1 day. It was on the return flight to rio that they had the strong fuel smell. The captain told them that they didn't have to prepare the cabin for an evacuate/evacuation, but to be prepared for fire trucks to meet the plane. He also made an announcement to the passenger to reassure them that it was not an emergency. She later learned that the plane went back to miami later that night. She never found out what the source of the smell was.
